It seems as if loyalty programs are everywhere. Grocery stores, restaurants, airlines, hotels—they all offer one program or another. So how do you know which one is right for you?

First off, signing up for every program isn’t a good idea. The real value comes from participating in the programs that are specifically tailored for your needs.

Tailored to fit

To determine this, here are a few simple questions to ask:

  • Is the product or service something that I currently use or would use?

  • Is it easy to enroll and earn points or miles?

  • Can I use the points or miles for things that I value?

  • Does the program give status and recognize me with something extra for that status?

  • Do the points or miles expire?

If you can answer ‘yes’ to these questions, the program is likely worth joining. Companies really do want to reward you for your loyalty. This will ultimately help stretch your dollar and get you more value for your money.
