Mediaplanet: The way we interact with each other is constantly changing—especially in the office. How is technology integration changing the way we work?

Rick Taylor: Innovation hubs, such as the Business Innovation Center, focus on smart office technology including sensor-based technologies and workplace automation. Dedicated to making workplace coordination as efficient as possible, their aim is to build a smart office, and among its software’s many features are shared calendars and responsive conference rooms that sense an employee’s arrival and push that information to fellow employees (a team member who may have forgotten a meeting, for example). There are products in development that range from the silly and fun, like an employee’s favorite song playing when they walk into a room, to the practical, like specific-to-a-person phone chargers popping out of desks when they arrive in an office.

MP: In the modern office, it’s now possible to access data from virtually anywhere and everywhere, leading to more efficient collaboration. How can businesses stay on the forefront of connectivity?

RT: To succeed in an ever-changing and increasingly globalized environment, we continue to focus on the technologies that influence the way organizations operate. We will continue to roll out smart solutions that shape the future of business. This will allow us to serve businesses better and power productivity, responsiveness and innovation. By continuing to create advancements in technology, we can help drive enhancements in critical areas—allowing customers to ultimately do more, communicate better and innovate more easily than ever before.

MP: What is ECM and how is it contributing to this supercharged efficiency?

RT: Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions make all essential documents processes more productive. ECM captures and distributes documents and content in any form, automates routing, maintains compliance, preserves records to speed the flow of information, enhances security and controls costs. Businesses benefit from using ECM by having real time access to the information they need, regardless of where they are, allowing them to provide better services and attention to their customers.

"The workforce of the future—and the supporting technologies used in different industries—will be radically different from today, and oriented to support personalization and individual productivity."

MP: How can companies utilizing ECM keep your data safe?

RT: The best data security solutions minimize risks and support compliance by securely storing, protecting and destroying information in accordance with applicable regulations. Our ECM solutions utilize powerful encryption standards that can easily integrate with a customer’s existing authentication protocols—providing granular control over exactly who can access critical business information and what they can do with it. Further protective measures include automatically backing up content by creating multiple electronic copies, as well as will being backed up across multiple servers and to the cloud. This ensures that important information is protected and accessible at all times.

MP: What technological advancements will make up the next big wave of office innovation?

RT: The workforce of the future—and the supporting technologies used in different industries—will be radically different from today, and oriented to support personalization and individual productivity. Access to work assets via increasingly powerful mobile devices will provide an increase in flexible work arrangements and blur the lines toward a work-life integration rather than work-life balance. Social and collaborative technologies will continue to gain prominence and further facilitate company's brand awareness and knowledge sharing.
