Social Media: Your Glass Slipper?
News Every fairytale begins with four magic words, “Once upon a time.” Our real life fairytale began with one magic word: “Facebook.”
In 2013 my husband and I were recovering from a three-month hospital stay in New York City, from my decades-long battle with endometriosis. We badly needed ways to bring in supplemental income to pay off our huge medical debt. We saw a need in our community for family-friendly entertainment services that also provided paying jobs for local performing artists.
Daring to fail
With a small personal investment, we launched our dream of becoming successful entrepreneurs. Building a business on a small budget in today’s digital age is daunting, and we knew we needed an online web presence that was also mobile-friendly. Our budget didn’t allow for an online presence like a website but, with the wave of a magic wand, Facebook became our real-life fairy godmother.
"Facebook together with Instagram, have both been the key components in our growth, by offering us insights into what our customers want, as well as a way to communicate with them directly. "
A Facebook Page was the obvious choice to have a presence online for free. We created the Amazing Fairytale Parties Facebook Page as a way to brand, build, and market our company. Less than 24 hours after our page went live we had our first inquiry from our first client. Here was the confirmation that we could build our business on Facebook.
Rolling the snowball
We rallied our network to begin sharing our business page, and the growing number of likes on our page was, quite frankly, amazing! The demand for our services continued growing and, as it did, so did our business.
Now, two and a half years later, we services clients in over 25 cities in three states. Facebook together with Instagram, have both been the key components in our growth, by offering us insights into what our customers want, as well as a way to communicate with them directly. This is especially important as we’re working from our mobile phones while traveling between the various regions.
On the go
Mobile is the fastest adoption of communication in history, so, being mobile is important to a business. The world is increasingly accessing information online via mobile phones, and over 1 in every 5 minutes in the U.S. is spent on Facebook and Instagram. Facebook allows us to have a mobile responsive presence as the world goes mobile and together with Instagram we have the ability to engage our audience through storytelling while branding and marketing our business.
Facebook and Instagram are the mobile solution to help us grow our business to the next phase: animated movie musicals, educational books and toys for children. Like Cinderella’s glass slipper, Facebook and Instagram are the perfect fit for our business and small businesses across the globe.
